Clients often ask us whether good design needs to be expensive. Here at Design Build Specialists, we don’t think it has to be. ” Good Design” has two main elements
Structural Design: Good design incorporates the needs and lifestyle of the homeowner with effective use of space planning and the right product selections. We believe that the best results occur when the client has options and can decide what something is worth to them. The feasibility study is very helpful to value engineering.
Product Selection: ( types of flooring, paint colors, tile selection and plumbing fixtures, cabinets types and features, etc..) Expensive things are often very nice but is their a option that is just as nice for less money? Good design gives options so the client can make informed choices. We’ve seen too many designs in the past where an independent designer will create a plan for a client that may look great, but is nowhere close to the client’s budget, and everyone ends up unhappy. That’s why we are very careful who we introduce to the project and always give the client options to different interior designers. Interior Designers are not all created equal. The first question we answer is ” can the homeowner be their own designer?” – much easier with todays technology. The feasibility study is very helpful to hold interior designers accountable to a budget.
So from our perspective, good design does not necessarily need to be expensive.
